KISS ESC - FW update
This guide is valid for KISS ESC >18A and FW >1.1
The KISS ESC comes with a KISS bootloader to gain easy updates using the signal input wire over a FC or USB-UART.
Software update using KISS FC
Here you dont need to change any connection as the wiring is similar to how it is needed to fly
Remove all propellers!
Connect the FC to your PC
Power the ESC's
Open the KISS GUI and connect to the FC
Go to ESC Flasher tab, select a FW and start the flash process.
Software update via Betaflight
For this the KISS Flash Loader App is required
Remove all propellers!
Connect the FC to your PC
Power the ESC's
Open the Betaflight GUI, go to CLI and type in
„escprog ki 255“
Close the com port!
Open the KISS Flash Loader and select USB-UART
Select the firmware you like to flash and start the Flash process
Software update via USB-UART
ESC ↔ USB-UART Signal ↔ TX GND ↔ GND
Remove all propellers!
Connect the USB-UART to your PC
Power the ESC
Open the KISS Flash Loader and select USB-UART
Select the firmware you like to flash and start the Flash process.
Important note in case update fails
If the update fails for any reason, the bootloader will stay alive. Fast LED flashes means it stays in bootloader mode, slow LED flashes means it could not start the loaded software because it is not valid. To make sure to catch the bootloader after a failed software update do:
1. Power the FC (via USB), but don't power the ESC's - unplug Lipo! 2. Connect KISS GUI - if you are not connected still. 3. Go to the ESC Flasher tab - if you are not in there still - within the KISS GUI. 4. Select the appropriate FW - either local or from remote. In case of remote click the download firmware button. 5. Press flash firmware button and power the ESC's within one second after that.
